Community Nutrition and Health Activity (CNHA)

Background
The purpose of the planned U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Community Nutrition and Health Activity (CNHA) in Bangladesh is to improve the nutrition outcomes of pregnant and lactating women, and children less than five years old in Bangladesh. The CNHA will address the inequitable nutrition outcomes of the most vulnerable segments of the population through a targeted community-health system strengthening approach.
Scope of the Position
The Gender, Youth and Social Inclusion Lead (GYSI Lead) will ensure that gender, youth and other socio-cultural factors are fully addressed within all food security and resilience activities in order to achieve equitable outcomes. This position will lead gender and youth integration efforts across all program activities and will be responsible for coordination of best practices across all levels of the program.
This position is expected to be based in Dhaka, with regular travel within Bangladesh. This five-year
position is contingent on Helen Keller being awarded funding.
Specific Responsibilities
The GYSI Lead will:
· Take a leadership role in the design and review of GYSI needs for the development of equitable programming within the Bangladesh CNHA.
- Lead the design and implementation of a gender and youth analysis study in the project communities and facilitate the use of findings to inform project activities.
- Provide overall GYSI technical support in designing programs to overcome previously identified GYSI barriers in Mozambique and developing program requirements necessary to achieve equitable outcomes.
· Lead on integrating GYSI into all aspects of the program.
- Monitor the project’s compliance with GYSI requirements.
- Identify indicators and provide expertise to staff regarding monitoring, assessing and evaluating GYSI performance, including outcomes and impacts.
Provide other GYSI technical support as requested by colleagues.
Stay abreast of GYSI issues relevant to the project and lead the collection and dissemination of best practices and lessons learned both in Bangladesh and Asia.
As a Technical Advisor, the position co-supervises project staff within his/her area of expertise and will liaise with donors and partners.
· Model collaboration for the matrixed project team: effectively consult and inform colleagues to maximize efficiency and knowledge sharing and integrate guidance and direction from subject matter experts in your office and elsewhere in the global organization to maximize performance.
- Guide implementation teams to achieve high-quality project deliverables and ensure they meet project objectives and donor requirements.
- Work with staff to achieve goals and ensure accountability to beneficiaries, partners, colleagues and donors by providing ongoing feedback in a context of mutual respect.
- Contribute to recruitment and ongoing supervision and evaluation of program staff in technical area and contribute to an atmosphere conducive to professional growth and development.
Required Qualifications/Competencies
- Master’s degree in relevant technical areas, such as gender, women’s studies, or international development, or similar social sciences field required; plus
- At least 7 years of field experience working with integrated programs with GYSI as a cross-cutting issue, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in developing and implementing new and innovative frameworks, methodology, and tools to identify and analyze barriers to inclusive growth and the impact of these barriers on women, youth, children, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.
- Strong experience working with USAID funded projects.
- Demonstrated extensive technical research, writing, and management skills.
- Demonstrated qualitative and quantitative research design, collection, and analysis skills.
- Demonstrated experience applying learnings from research and implementation to GYSI strategies.
- Demonstrated experience designing GYSI strategies.
· Strong interpersonal skills and experience working in diverse teams and cross-cultural settings.
· Experience managing and coordinating staff and partners to achieve results.
· Excellent time management and personal organization skills.
· An ability to work in challenging and changing environments, and to see through challenges to find solutions; an ability to maintain balance when under stress.
· Demonstrable respect for all persons regardless of religion, ethnicity, class or gender, with a high comfort level working in a diverse environment with a demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
· Experience working in Bangladesh is highly desirable.
· Fluency in Bengali is advantageous.
